In 1976, a earthquake hit Tangshan, China at 3:47am on the 28th of July. It remains to this day to be the deadliest earthquake in history.

In that chaos, Wu Xiutang, a young mother and accountant, sped to her local hospital after ensuring the safety of her son, desperate to discover if her husband, Peng Zhi, who had been admitted to that hospital earlier that day, was alive.

She dug through the rubble with her bare hands, only to discover that her husband was in fact alive and well along with many other patients. She was able to save them all, but while riding home with her husband she realised another issue was at hand, her villages food stores would have also been destroyed in the quake.

So, as she and her husband rode through an apple orchard, she stopped and took off her pants, tying off the legs, and filling them with fallen apples to feed her family, and her fellow villagers.
